Martial Arts Amateur Athlete Fund

(MAAAF)

The Martial Arts Amateur Athlete Fund is a non-profit organization established by the members of D & D United Martial Arts and their parents. The objective of the Martial Arts Amateur Athlete Fund is to support Martial Art athletes who have achieved placement on Team Canada and will represent our country at the International Congress of Martial Arts (ICOMA) World Championships. The World Championships are held in a different country each year.

To date, we are very please to announce the following achievements of the athletes:

  • 2011 Costa Rica, 12 members achieved a combined total of 39 world medals (10 gold, 16 silver, and 13 bronze)
  • 2010 Panama, thirteen members achieved a combined total of 28 world medals (7 gold, 9 silver, and 10 bronze)
  • 2009 Cuba, fifteen members achieved a combined total of 34 world metals (7 gold, 14 silver, and 13 bronze)
  • 2008 Mexico, five competitors achieved a combined total of 9 world medals (2 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze).

Competing and representing Canada is a big expense for competitors - they train hard! Our goal is to help these amateur athletes, from as young as five years old, to be able to achieve their objective of representing Brantford, Brant County, and Canada at the World Championships with pride.

Establishment of the MAAAF in 2009 has allowed D & D to take an active role in raising funds to help make competition more affordable and attainable for students who have met the rigorous criteria to achieve placement on Team Canada. The volunteers working with the MAAAF raise money through various fund raising events such as :

  • Annual dinner/dance silent auction;
  • Annual sale of Legacy cards (approx. 10% discount at various Brantford locations);
  • Chocolate bar sales;
  • Various raffles;
  • Collection of Zehr’s receipts, and pop and beer cans; and
  • Sale of Zehr’s gift cards.
